About Grassroots Grocery
Grassroots Grocery is a rapidly growing nonprofit on a mission to transform community food access. Every Saturday at our “Produce Party,” we transform a parking lot in the Bronx into a hub of joyful connection, where over 100 volunteers sort and deliver 15,000 pounds of fresh produce to 30 communities — reaching more than 1,500 families across The Bronx and Harlem.
In addition to our Produce Parties, we partner with major companies to host the Great Sandwich Race — a high-energy, in-office service event where 2,000+ employees made 55,000 sandwiches last year for New Yorkers in need.
We’ve been featured twice on The Kelly Clarkson Show, highlighted by CNN and multiple local news outlets, and recognized as one of New York’s most promising grassroots movements. But we’re just getting started.
Since launch, we’ve moved millions of pounds of produce directly into the heart of communities — and our goal is to “Deliver Double” by the end of next year, laying the foundation to scale far beyond.
We’re at a critical inflection point. The enthusiasm from our supporters is unmatched, and we are looking to convert that enthusiasm into more scale. Our Founder & CEO is seeking a right-hand partner to steward this momentum, strengthen the systems beneath it, and ensure our relationships and priorities move forward with clarity and care.
About the Role
This role is a calling for someone who’s ready to work hard, think fast, and partner deeply with our Founder & CEO. You’ll be a high-trust, high-impact collaborator who turns ideas into clear priorities, strengthens relationships, and helps leadership execute with focus.
This role is intense, immersive, and deeply meaningful — and it’s meant for someone who wants to give it everything they’ve got.
If you bring structure to chaos, stamina to uncertainty, and joy to the grind, we can’t wait to meet you.
What You'll Do:
Turn Vision into Clarity and Execution
Be the CEO’s closest thought partner — processing fast-paced conversations, translating unstructured thinking into clear action, and ensuring alignment with org-wide priorities
Take meetings on behalf of the CEO — surfacing insights, building relationships, and driving follow-up
Build systems and structures that scale — by shadowing the CEO and turning instincts into processes the team can own
Strengthen the Team and Organization
Be the connective tissue between the CEO’s evolving vision and the team’s execution
Keep communication clear and the team grounded in high-stakes or fast-moving moments
Manage part-time contractors or freelance support to offload non-core work as needed
Maximize the CEO’s Time and Impact
Manage the CEO’s to-do list — translating it into priorities and action steps
Prioritize the CEO’s time, energy, and attention on what matters most
Own inbox, calendar, and follow-up — ensuring conversations and relationships are tracked, advanced, and thoughtfully maintained — even when things are flying at you from ten directions at once
Who You'll Work For:
You'll partner deeply with a CEO who is:
A fast-talking, fast-moving thinker — brimming with ideas, passion, and creativity — whose mind runs 24/7 and thrives in rapid, collaborative thinking
Driven by bold ideas and big goals — and counting on you to help make them real
Neurodiverse, with ADHD that brings tremendous strengths and real challenges
You Might Be the One If You...
Feel deep personal pride in building something bigger than yourself
Are fueled by a deep need to get things done — and then do the next thing, and the next
Are the kind of person who keeps going when others pause — who finds satisfaction in being “on” when the mission needs you most
Are highly organized, precise, and disciplined — and can thrive in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
Welcome debate, feedback, and candor as essential to excellence
Are emotionally intelligent, calm under pressure, and energized by working hard for a mission you believe in
Required Experience
Demonstrated history of supporting a leader as a Chief of Staff, Senior EA, Project Manager, or similar role
Impeccable communication skills
This role is a foundational partnership with the CEO to shape the future of Grassroots Grocery. You’ll grow alongside a fast-scaling nonprofit, deepen your strategic leadership skills, and gain a front-row seat to what it takes to build something meaningful from the ground up.
If you’ve been waiting for a role where you can go all-in, this is it.
